GBP 120-200/m3 full household move, door to door

A full house move to the Costa Blanca runs GBP 120 to 200 per cubic metre, which puts a whole household at GBP 2,500 to 7,000 and a three-bed house of about 30 m3 above GBP 6,000. A part load saves roughly 10 to 35%, and buys a delivery window instead of a date. Exchange rate used: GBP 1 = EUR 1.17, checked 5 August 2026.

Part load or dedicated vehicle

The decision
CHEAPER

Part load

10 to 35% cheaper, with most sources clustering at 15 to 30%. A part load is cheaper per cubic metre but it buys uncertainty. A delay costing three hotel nights at GBP 90 adds GBP 270 to the move without shifting a single extra box. That is the comparison almost nobody makes properly. Full verdict →

A FIXED DATE

Dedicated vehicle

GBP 3,500 to 7,000. You are buying a delivery date, which when a key handover is involved is usually worth more than the price difference. Full verdict →

The two clocks, and the application that does not exist

Customs
12 months out, 6 months owned

These are two different clocks and almost everyone merges them: 12 months living outside the EU, but 6 months of owning and using the goods (12 for vehicles). Merging them costs you the whole relief.

There is no prior application in Spain

The change-of-residence relief is claimed on the import declaration (DUA) itself. There is no separate prior application in Spain, whatever other pages imply. Box 37.2 codes: 101 for the VAT exemption, C01 for the customs relief.

You cannot sell it for 12 months

Goods brought in under the relief may not be sold, transferred, hired or lent for 12 months after import.

What the Spanish end adds that a UK quote will not mention

On arrival

On this coast a removal is priced by the last fifty metres, not by the distance driven. Volume sets the base rate; what turns EUR 400 into EUR 700 is whether the lorry can park at the door, whether there is a lift, and whether a furniture hoist is needed.

You need a permit at both addresses, not one. Origin and destination are two separate occupations of the public way, on two streets, often in two different municipalities, with two fees and two notice periods. Almost no competitor page says this. The municipal permit is covered town by town on the permits page.

Questions about moving to Spain

Frequently asked
How much does it cost to move a house from the UK to Spain?

GBP 2,500 to 7,000 door to door for a full household, or GBP 120 to 200 per cubic metre. A three-bed house at around 30 m3 sits above GBP 6,000.

How much is a part load to Spain?

Around 5 m3 costs GBP 650 to 1,250; the general part-load range is GBP 700 to 2,000, with entry points quoted from GBP 1,200. Shared groupage runs GBP 1,500 to 3,500.

Why does one cubic metre cost so much?

A single cubic metre on its own is GBP 250 to 600, against GBP 120 to 200 in a full load. That is the minimum-charge effect, not profiteering: the fixed cost of the journey has nothing to spread across.

How long does it take?

3 to 7 days driven direct, 4 to 14 days door to door, about 4 to 5 days for a well-run part load. These are different services, not contradictory claims, which is why we publish them by service type.

Do I pay VAT or duty on my own furniture?

Not under the change-of-residence relief. These are two different clocks and almost everyone merges them: 12 months living outside the EU, but 6 months of owning and using the goods (12 for vehicles). Merging them costs you the whole relief. The relief is claimed on the DUA import declaration itself.

Is my quote in cubic metres or cubic feet?

The most expensive quoting error in this corridor: giving the volume in cubic feet when the quote assumes cubic metres. There is a factor of 35 between them. “650 cube” can mean 18 m3 or 650 m3. Ask explicitly. A UK firm may be thinking in feet while the Spanish end is thinking in metres.

Do I need a permit to unload at the Spanish address?

Yes, if the lorry occupies the road, the pavement or parking bays. You need a permit at both addresses, not one. Origin and destination are two separate occupations of the public way, on two streets, often in two different municipalities, with two fees and two notice periods. Almost no competitor page says this. In Torrevieja you need ten days' notice, and no centre reservations are granted at all in July or August.

What about my car?

Vehicles need 12 months of ownership and use rather than six to qualify for the relief. We have not verified current Spanish matriculation and homologation costs, so we do not publish a figure for them.
