EUR 20-120 a month, depending on size

A small unit in Alicante runs EUR 20 to 50 a month and a large one EUR 70 to 120. Bought inside the move itself it is usually +EUR 10 to 30 per cubic metre plus handling in and out, which for short gaps almost always beats renting a unit separately.

What to ask before you sign

The small print
Minimum term and deposit

Six months minimum and two months' deposit is not unusual. If you need two months between houses, that turns a good price into a bad one.

What the insurance actually covers

Being honest here: the claim that the insurance covers water damage is a feature of one specific product, not a fact about the market, and we will not repeat it without seeing a policy. Ask in writing what is covered, up to what limit, and by whom.

Ask specifically about damp, salt air and water
Damp and salt air

This is a coast. Facilities advertise humidity and temperature control, but advertising it and contracting it are different things: if you are storing wood, instruments, documents or electronics, insist that climate control appears in the contract.

Access, when and how

Self-storage usually means 24-hour keycode access. Traditional storage means your goods are in a sealed container in a warehouse and access is by appointment with staff. The difference matters far more than it seems at signing.

Storage questions

Frequently asked
How much is storage in Alicante per month?

A small unit is EUR 20 to 50 and a large one EUR 70 to 120. At named facilities, rates run from EUR 28 for one square metre to EUR 130 for over seven.

How much is storage in Torrevieja?

Around EUR 100 to 115 a month for roughly 5 m2 in the listings we saw, and EUR 115 a month for a 15 m2 closed unit in La Zenia with a six-month minimum and two months' deposit. Those are advertised prices, not published tariffs: verify them.

Is it cheaper to arrange storage with the move?

For short gaps, almost always. Inside the move it is +EUR 10 to 30 per cubic metre plus handling, and you avoid a second load and unload. For long stays a monthly unit usually wins.

How much space do I need?

As a guide, a two-bedroom flat is 10 to 20 m3, which in a unit 2.5 m high is roughly 4 to 8 m2. If the provider talks in square metres and your move is in cubic metres, be careful with the conversion.

Can I get in whenever I want?

In self-storage usually yes, keycode, 24 hours. In traditional storage no: access is by appointment and accompanied, because your goods are sealed in a container inside a warehouse.

Does the insurance cover damp damage?

That depends entirely on that facility's policy, which is why we do not assert it. It is one of the claims we removed from this guide for lack of support: get it in writing before you leave anything inside.

Are there free storage offers on the UK corridor?

Yes, and they recur: “one month free storage in Spain” and “two months free UK storage” are standard hooks. For someone whose completion has slipped they are genuinely useful. Check what month three costs.
